Showa Station

Do you know Showa Station?　I think that those who know only the names are many. This week, I will introduce the role of Showa Station. I think that you should know Showa Station more. The people in Showa Station do many great things. I want you to know it!!

Showa Station is located at the edge of the Antarctic. The name of the base is derived from that Showa Station was built in "Showa" era.
First, I introduce the history. The history of Showa Station is also the history of the Japanese Antarctic almost intact. Originally, Japan was planning to make observations equator. However, the United States which have ownership of a planned territory did not allow, and Japan must switched to the Antarctic exploration. At first, the difficulty such as frozen observation instruments was followed by. Meanwhile, dog sledding was active as a means of transportation. But ,in winter of 1958, the observation team is determined that it can not exceed the winter, and the dogs were left behind. This fact became a movie. I introduced this movie in this blog before. Then the Showa Station have been developed.

At Syowa Station from 1970 through 1985, rocket was launched. The purpose is to measure ozone and auroral observation. 54 rocket was launched until now. I think maybe you did not know.
