I have ever introduced many things of Antarctic. So I think that you have the knowledge. This week, I will introduce climate. Maybe, you know that Antarctic is very cold.So let's see it in more detail.

In most parts of the Antarctic, the average monthly temperature does not exceed 0 ℃ in the summer. Further, it is not only. Antarctica is very dry. The amount of rain is very low. Taking acount of it only, Antarctica is classified as desert!! I was surprised to listen to it.

As a matter of fact, Antarctica is colder than North Pole. There are some reasons.
First, Antarctica is a continent, and North Pole is not a continent. In Antarctic, there is a massive glacier on the ground. So Antarctic is high elevation. On the other hand, the North Pole has no land. So the North Pole is low elevation. In other words, Antactic is colder.
Second, air and ocean currents are involved. In the North Pole, by westerlies and jet stream, warm air flows. And  warm airflow flow from Atlantic Ocean. Antarctica is easy to maintain the cold, and the North Pole is not easy to maintain the cold.

The lowest temperature ever recorded on the earth is -89.2 ℃. I can not imagine how cold this temperature is. Maybe, people can not live in this environment. On the other hand, the highest temperature ever recorded in Antarctica is at 14.6 ℃. This is unexpected. I don't think that it is high temperatures.

Next, I will introduce the ice covering the Antarctic. Almost all of Antarctica is covered by ice. By the way, in recent years, climate change is happening by global warming.  So the surface temperature of the water, snow and ice, ground are rising in many parts of Antarctica. It is said that 90% of all the world's ice is present, and Antarctica has more than 70% of all the world's fresh water. If this ices melts, it will be a terrible situation.

The climate of Antarctica is the symbol of the Antarctic. The climate of Antarctica is important for Antarctica. That is why it is big thing to change the climate.
